Dear Mrs. Meteran,
Although today is the 36 day of the hunger strike of 176 Kurdish detainees in Adra prison near Damascus, the Syrian regime has not responded to their demands which include alongside their political goals a set of fundamental rights, particularly the cessation of torture and better conditions of detention. The hunger strikers are detained individually in cells designed to create the greatest possible torture to the detainees, which are tight, dark, filthy, and damp. In addition, the detainees have been severely tortured physically and psychologically by the security forces in many detention centers including Adra prison.
In addition, both the arbitrary arrests and unlawful trials of these detainees lack the basic legal and judicial principles. In fact, such acts are grave violations of the international obligations of the Syrian regime. Syria is a member of both International Covenants of 1966 since 1969, and it assigned the1984 Agreement against Torture in 2004. In addition, the Syrian regime is bound to respect the covenants and conventions of human rights that are verified by the United Nations. However, the Syrian regime practices arbitrary arrest, torture, which caused death in many cases, and indefinite detention without trial for the political activists. In addition, those who are sentenced usually face fake trials conducted by unlawful tribunals, especially the Supreme Court of National Security which issues its verdicts according to the instructions of the security agencies of the regime.
Accordingly, the hunger strikers have suffered all these violations despite the fact that they were arrested for their peaceful political activities. It is well--known fact that all the Kurdish political parties in Syria act peacefully and reject the use of violence.
As we call the international community to put considerable pressure on the Syrian regime to set these detainees free, we express our serious concerns about their physical and psychological conditions; especially they are isolated from the outside world. So we hope that the organizations and defenders of human rights will respond to our call and join their voice to ours to ask the international community to compel the Syrian regime to respect the fundamental human rights of the detainees. We also plea the international organizations of human rights to send human rights and medical delegations to investigate the grave crimes committed against the detainees by the security forces of the regime.
We promise the hunger strikers that this campaign will continue until it attain its humanitarian goals. Besides, the defenders and organizations of human rights are confidently invited to join this campaign.

حملة التضامن مع المعتقلين الكرد في السجون السورية
أثينا: الشبان الكرد يعتصمون أمام السفارة السورية لاعلان التضامن مع المضربين سجن عدرا المركزي شارك العشرات من أعضاء ومؤيدي حزب االاتحاد الديمقراطي ب ي د ، في العاصمة اليونانية اثينا يوم أمس الجمعة، في التظاهرة التي اقيمت امام السفارة السورية للتنديد بالسياسة السورية حيال الكرد ولاعلان التضامن مع المضربين عن الطعام في سجن عدرا المركزي والذي دخل اليوم يومه السابع والثلاثين.

دمشق: سلطات السجن لم تسمح لذوي المعتقلين بزيارتهم
لم تسمح السلطات السورية وللأسبوع الخامس على التوالي لـذوي المعتقلين السياسيين الكرد من لقائهم، وقد زاد هذا المنع من تخوف عوائل المعتقلين وعموم الشعب الكردي والشخصيات الوطنية على مصير المعتقلين الذين دخل اضرابهم عن الطعام يومه الرابع والثلاثين.

هيومن رايتس تدعو سوريا الى الكف عن -قمع- الاكراد
